About Huckleberry Roofing Ltd, Newcastle

Want to know who you are letting up on your roof?

A Newcastle roofing company built around repairs, straight answers and photographs of everything we do

We are a family-run limited company with over ten years of roofing experience, fully insured, working on roofs across Newcastle upon Tyne and the rest of Tyne and Wear. Most of our days are spent on repairs: a leak here, a chimney there, a run of gutters, a flat roof that has finally given up. This page is about how we go about it.

Repairs First, Because That Is What Roofs Need

A roof is a lot of small parts doing one job. When it fails, it is almost always one of those small parts: a flashing, a few fixings, a length of mortar, a square metre of felt. The rest is usually fine. We built this business around that fact, which is why our name comes up for roof repairs rather than for selling roofs.

It is not that we cannot do a full re-roof. We do them, and you can see some on the our work page. It is that we will not recommend one unless the roof actually needs it, and we will show you why if it does. Nobody should be paying for a new roof on the strength of a glance from the pavement.

The flip side is that we expect to be judged on whether the repair holds. So we do them properly: lead dressed and fixed rather than smeared with sealant, tiles matched and nailed rather than wedged, mortar raked out and renewed rather than skimmed over. Every repair comes with a written guarantee because we are confident enough in the work to put our name to it.

The Things We Do On Every Single Job

Inspect Before We Price

No quote leaves us until someone has been on the roof. For leaks, that includes the loft, because the water's trail on the timber is the most reliable evidence there is.

Photograph Everything

Before, during and after. You get the pictures. It is the only honest way to show a homeowner what is happening somewhere they cannot see.

Name The Fault In Writing

Our quotes describe what is wrong and what we will do about it, in words a non-roofer can follow. The invoice matches the quote.

Use The Right Materials

Code 4 and 5 lead where lead belongs. Reclaimed slates to match old roofs. Breathable membrane, not bitumen felt. Proper mortar mixes, not whatever is in the van.

Leave It Tidy

Old lead and broken tiles taken away, gutters cleared of what we knocked in, drive swept. You should not be able to tell we were there except that the leak has stopped.

Stay Insured And Reachable

Public liability insurance on every job, certificate available on request. And a phone number that gets answered, including after the work is paid for.

A fair share of the people who ring us have already had one quote for a new roof. More often than not, what they actually needed was a repair costing a tenth of it.

What We Will Put Our Name To

A repair is only worth doing if it holds. So every job we do comes with a written workmanship guarantee, and it runs for ten years. That is written on your quote before you say yes to anything. If something we fixed starts letting water in again, you ring us and we come back. That is the whole policy.

We also put the cause in writing. If your leak was a cracked lead soaker rather than the tile you could see from the garden, the quote says so, and the invoice matches the quote. No add-ons discovered halfway up a ladder.

10 Year GuaranteeTen years on workmanship, on every repair, in writing.

Newcastle First, Then The Rest Of Tyne And Wear

Newcastle upon Tyne is where most of our work is and where we know the housing best: the slate terraces of Jesmond and Heaton, the 1930s semis of Gosforth and Kenton, the Tyneside flats of Byker and Sandyford, the post-war estates out at Westerhope and Newbiggin Hall. Each type of house fails in its own way, and after enough of them you know where to look before the ladder is off the van.

From Newcastle we cover Gateshead across the river, the coast from Whitley Bay down through North and South Shields, Wallsend and Longbenton to the east, and Sunderland to the south. Every one of those has its own page on this site with the local detail, which you can find from the areas list in the footer.

We are family run, and after more than ten years on roofs around the North East we also take on work in County Durham and parts of Northumberland. If you are on the edge of the map, ring and ask. The worst we will say is that it is a bit far.
