Roof Repairs Newcastle

Huckleberry Roofing Ltd

Roof leak, tile, chimney, lead, gutter and flat roof repairs across Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding Tyne and Wear towns

A stain creeping across the bedroom ceiling. A tile in the flower bed after a windy night. A gutter that pours down the wall every time it rains. Most roof problems in Newcastle start small, and most of them stay small if someone who knows what they are looking at gets up there early. That is the job, and it has been for over ten years. We are a family-run firm. We come out for free, find what is actually wrong, and put a price on fixing it in writing.

  • Free inspection, on the roof and in the loft, not from the drive
  • Written quote with the fault named before any work starts
  • Same-day call-outs for leaks and storm damage
  • Family run, fully insured, 10-year guarantee on every repair

Roof Repairs In Newcastle, Job By Job

Most of what we do is on this list. Each one has its own page explaining what goes wrong, how we fix it and roughly what it costs.

Leaf debris and silt built up in a lead roof valley that was letting water into a Newcastle home

Roof Leak Repairs

Water coming in and no obvious reason why. We trace it to the actual cause, not the nearest wet patch, and fix that.

Slipped & Broken Tile Repairs

One tile in the garden is usually the first you hear of it. We refit, replace and re-nail tiles and slates to match what is already there.

Chimney Repairs & Repointing

Crumbling mortar, loose pots and cracked flaunching. Chimneys take the worst of the weather and are the usual suspect when a bedroom ceiling stains.

Lead Flashing & Valley Repairs

Split lead, lifted flashings and valleys full of silt. Properly dressed, properly fixed lead, not a smear of sealant over the top.

Ridge & Hip Tile Repairs

Loose ridge tiles and hips with the mortar gone. Re-bedded in fresh mortar or converted to a dry fixed system that cannot blow off.

Gutters, Fascias & Soffits

Overflowing gutters, sagging brackets, rotten fascia boards. The roofline is where most damp problems start and it is cheap to put right.

Flat Roof Repairs

Ponding, blisters and splits in felt, and tired garage and extension roofs. Patched where that is honest, re-covered where it is not.

Storm Damage & Emergency Repairs

Why Most Newcastle Roofs Need Fixing, Not Replacing

Plenty of roofing firms would rather sell you a new roof than spend an afternoon on a repair, and plenty of homeowners have been talked into one they did not need. The roofs around Newcastle are mostly sound. What fails is the detail: the lead, the mortar, the odd tile, the felt at the eaves. Fix the detail and the roof carries on.

  • Victorian terraces in Jesmond, Heaton and Sandyford sit under Welsh slate that is often 120 years old and still good. It is the iron nails that give up, not the slate. Re-fixing beats re-roofing almost every time.
  • 1930s semis in Gosforth, Kenton and Fenham have big chimney stacks and long valleys. Nine times out of ten the leak is one of those two, not the tiles.
  • Tyneside flats in Heaton, Byker and Bensham share one roof between two owners. A small repair agreed early is far easier to split than a re-roof nobody budgeted for.
  • Post-war estates in Longbenton, Westerhope and Newbiggin Hall have concrete tiles reaching the end of their life. Even then, a slope at a time is usually the sensible route.
  • Coastal rows at Whitley Bay and the Shields get salt and easterlies that eat mortar and lift ridges. Regular small fixes keep those roofs going for decades.

What Makes Huckleberry Roofing Different To Ring

  • We look before we price. Quotes from the pavement are guesses. Ours come after we have been on the roof and, for leaks, in the loft.
  • We name the fault. Your quote says what is wrong in plain English, not "roof repair" and a number.
  • We will talk you out of work. If a tile needs refitting, you get a price for a tile, not a pitch for a re-roof.
  • We photograph everything. Before, during and after. You see what we saw, which matters when you cannot get up there yourself.
  • We come back if it fails. Written workmanship guarantee on every job, ten years, in writing.

Something like half the homeowners who ring us in Newcastle expecting to need a new roof end up with a repair that costs a fraction of what they feared.

How A Repair With Us Actually Goes

Six steps, no surprises. The same routine whether it is one slate or a whole chimney.

1

Ring Us Or Send The Form

Tell us what you have noticed. A photo of the ceiling or the roof from the garden helps. We will give you a day and a rough time, not a four-hour window.

2

Free Roof Inspection

We get on the roof and, where the problem is a leak, into the loft. Photos of everything we find, so you can see the fault for yourself.

3

Written Quote, Plain Words

The fault named, the fix described, the price fixed. VAT in. If there is a cheaper way that would be honest, you get that price too.

4

A Date That Works

Active leaks and storm damage go to the front of the queue, same day where we can. Everything else is booked around you.

5

The Work Itself

Reclaimed slates to match, lead properly dressed, mortar mixed to the right strength. We do it the way we would want it done on our own house.

6

Tidied, Checked, Guaranteed

Gutters cleared of anything we knocked in, ground swept, ladders gone. Your written guarantee is handed over before we drive off.

What You Get With Every Repair

A repair is only worth doing if it holds. So every job we do comes with a written workmanship guarantee, and it runs for ten years. That is written on your quote before you say yes to anything. If something we fixed starts letting water in again, you ring us and we come back. That is the whole policy.

We also put the cause in writing. If your leak was a cracked lead soaker rather than the tile you could see from the garden, the quote says so, and the invoice matches the quote. No add-ons discovered halfway up a ladder.

10 Year GuaranteeTen years on workmanship, on every repair, in writing.
Free Inspection FirstWe get on the roof and find the cause before we price anything.
Fully InsuredPublic liability cover on every job. Ask and we will show you the certificate.

Questions Newcastle Homeowners Ask Us

Do you only do repairs, or full roofs as well?

Both, but repairs are what we are set up for and what most of our week looks like. Slipped tiles, chimneys, lead, gutters, flat roof patches. We do full roof replacements when a roof genuinely needs one, and we are the first to say when it does not.

How much does a roof repair cost in Newcastle?

Small jobs like refitting a few slipped tiles or re-dressing a flashing tend to sit between £120 and £400. Chimney repointing, new lead valleys or a run of gutters and fascias are more, usually several hundred up to the low thousands. Our cost guide goes through each job type. You always get a written figure before we start.

Is the roof inspection really free?

Yes. We come out, get on the roof, work out what is wrong and tell you. No call-out fee, no charge for the quote, and no obligation to book the work. If the honest answer is "leave it for now", that is what you will hear.

How fast can you get to an emergency?

For water coming in or tiles off after a storm we aim for the same day anywhere in Newcastle and most of Tyne and Wear. We make it watertight first, even if the permanent repair has to wait for materials or for the wind to drop.

Which areas do you cover?

Newcastle upon Tyne first, then the rest of Tyne and Wear: Gosforth, Jesmond, Gateshead, Sunderland, Westerhope, Longbenton, Wallsend, Whitley Bay, North Shields and South Shields all have their own page. If you are a little outside those, ring anyway.

Do roof repairs need planning permission?

Repairing a roof like for like does not. Newcastle City Council, and the neighbouring councils, treat it as maintenance. The exception is listed buildings and some conservation areas, where swapping the covering for a different material can need consent. A repair in the same material does not.

Roof Repairs Across Tyne And Wear

Newcastle upon Tyne is where most of our work is: Gosforth and Jesmond to the north, Heaton and Byker to the east, Fenham and Westerhope out west. From there we cover both banks of the river and the coast, so Gateshead, Wallsend, the Shields, Whitley Bay and down to Sunderland are all regular runs for us.

Each area has its own page with the local detail: the housing stock, what tends to go wrong with it, which council handles planning, and what people round there usually ask us.

Where We Work

Newcastle upon Tyne is home turf, and we cover the rest of Tyne and Wear from there. Pick your area for the local page, or just ring if you are somewhere in between.
